pretty pancakes

we decided (ie alison and me) that tiramisu and buttermilk pancakes were on our must-try-to-make list last week.. this weekend we’re watching the rugby sevens so cooking is abandoned for awhile.

making the tiramisu.. here goes!

the savoiardi sponge fingers we used.. i was frightened into buying the most authentic ingredients by this person when searching online for recipes she was so fierce! but we still soaked the fingers using brandy and coffee (oh the horrors! but we figured we didnt need espresso for our first try :P )

i separated the yolks from the whites! the egg whites are still sitting somewhere in the fridge i think. eew. anyhow i was pretty upset when one yolk broke :( they would have been perfect otherwise!

adding the mascarpone and egg yolk layer.. we didnt have enough cheese so the layer wasnt as thick as we like. will definitely buy more the nxt time round! our secret almond layer before putting another layer of sponge fingers and mascarpone. alison sieved the cocoa powder onto the mascarpone layer after it was left to set in the fridge for 3 hours or so. we were spposed to add a layer of whipped cream but we spent like 10 mins whisking the cream before realising the cream we bought was NOT suitable for whipping :x

while the tiramisu was sitting in the fridge we made pancakes!

star-shaped cooking ring i bought it can be used to make eggs, hamburger patties, PANCAKES, etc. our buttermilk pancake mix with walnuts, my first attempt at making the pancake and voila! the first pancake out! yes it was ugly i know. im a beginner!

my skills improved subsequently :) and the stacks of pancakes after like a super long period of time. i got bored but i had to stay by the stove :( and alison and me were so hungry while waiting..

but it was worth it! our pancakes ready to be served.. try to ignore the tiramisu at the side heh. alison, i think our nxt batch will be perfect! :)

and the wait was worth it cause i made my pancakes look really pretty (: cut a banana and drizzled some melted cadbury choc.. though i have to confess it looks better than it tastes! haha.

there’s more to come about our “adventure” to the rugby sevens will probably post another entry tonight!
